Work addiction
I have read an article called „Work addiction can be harmful to mental health”, written by Tenna J Clouston. This text tells about how work has become a central concern in peoples' lives, and that this approach contributes to the growth of workaholism in the industrialized world. Additionally, work addiction results from a person's love of work or financial problems, but also from poorer mental health.
According to the article, people most at risk of work addiction are people with low self-esteem, compulsive-obsessive personality traits, often suffering from depression or other anxiety disorders. Such people, often force themselves to excessive work, despite its harmful effects on their health, well-being and interpersonal relationships.
In the author's opinion, hard and very effective work is promoted as a measure of success, and that's the true. But she says that nowadays people forget about many other important things and they only focus on that success. And, such excessive perception increases the risk of addiction. I agree with her opinion, today , working for people becomes much more important, they are working harder and harder and they don't even notice that they become addicted over time.
Due to the increasing damage resulting from workaholism. According to the article, radical changes will be needed in workplaces and in society. People need to stop viewing work as a pivotal tool of performance and growth, they need to start paying more attention to their health and well-being. Employers should take care of the professional needs of their employees and be positive about them. Workplaces should develop work-life balance initiatives, create open career opportunities. I think that people should develop and take care of themselves and their mental, especially now, during a pandemic, when a lot of people work from home. Such activities will improve work efficiency and are good for people's mental health.
