Fashion of the years 2010 - 2019 (Part 2)
In 2010s, Instagram was created. Thanks to this app, the industry underwent a major cultural shift. Big brands opened up to customers. Along with Instagram came influencers, wellness culture, and the idea of "pics or it didn't happen." Fashion trends began to be set by the street. This application has become an opportunity for many people to fame.
At the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century, more and more people have started to notice a huge problem related to fashion industry and buying clothes in chain stores. Therefore, with organizations promoting a sustainable approach, the fashion for second-hand was born. In 2011s and 2013s the first online communities for vintage fashion (second-hand clothes) fans were born, such as vinted or deppop, whose popularity is increasing every day. Vintage, old clothes became extremely fashionable, therefore in 2010s-2019s the fashion of 80s or 90s returned, for example: sweaters with puff sleeves or mom jeans.
Despite the fact that more and more people are aware of the effects of „fast fashion”, the big ,,chain stores” industry is still developing. I’m not saying that the high-street shops are only bad and there is nothing positive about them. But, in my opinion, if we want to stop the big fashion industry, we need to change the way we think about buying clothes. We have to say NO to disposable fashion made from cheap and unsustainable fabrics. We need ecological fashion - „green fashion”.
